Accommodation Development Growth in APAC – Tourism and Performance highs driving new development in the region
Almost all countries across the vast region continue to see positive growth and on occasion with surprising stability, regardless of external threats in the shape of geopolitical uncertainty, natural disasters and economic challenges. In addition – the region has never been more branded, in new and old flavours – but at the same time we are also seeing new and emerging entrepreneurs bringing new spices to market. In this session Jesper will give highlights of regional hotel performance, brand growth, pipeline and overall shifts in profitability whilst also exploring specific areas in more depth. Which markets are hot and which ones more long-term? Find out what’s in store for the Asia Pacific hotel market.

The Power of Pause for Place-Making
Dr Colin K Okashimo, Masterplanner, Landscape Architect and Sculptor
Sculptor, landscape architect and master planner, Dr. Okashimo has developed, through his practice and research, a series of processes using meditation, contemplation, and reflection to intuitively learn about the essence of a place and interpreting that to have his design and artworks be both memorable and meaningful. His talk is reinforced with a series of videos that feature case studies of completed and in-progress projects of PROVOKED CALM.
His studio’s realisations cover a variety of hotel projects in both urban and resort environments and include Hotel Maya, Malaysia, Pullman Mandalay Hotel, Myanmar and on the triumvirate of Indian Ocean jewels – Halaveli Spa Resort, Maldives, Ephelia Resort, Seychelles and Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius.
Following Okashimo’s presentation, seminar programmer Guy Dittrich will lead a discussion and audience Q&A. Take a moment or two with the winner of the Singapore President*s Design Award, Designer of the Year 2015, to learn the benefits of pause to help you minimise distractions and be more creative.

Panel Discussion: Experience Design – the power of the intangible?
Guest Experience is the current buzz-word. What does this mean, where does it start and what is the role of design? Beyond the space and the objects within and around, we need to include the soft stuff here and that means the people.
Can design create a better emotional attachment between the hotel and guest? Do light, shape, texture and colour influence the way spaces are enjoyed? Is it necessary to differentiate between creating design experiences for guests and locals? Can design help prompt staff behaviour towards delivering a certain guest experience? How does design support the hotel’s programming?
From the Instagram moment to the skill of intuitive design our four panelists are ready to share their knowledge of creating experiences across all categories of hotel and maintaining this across brands in managed and franchised properties. Join us!
