2010-07-15

Shangri-La is to open three hotels in north China by 2013. The projects are in Qinhuangdao, Tianjin and Tangshan, coastal cities on the Bohai Bay that has ports serving North China and Northeast Asia.

The Shangri-La hotels will join the group’s portfolio of north China properties in Beijing and Inner Mongolia. With this year’s opening of China World Summit Wing, Beijing, Shangri-La will have eight properties in the region. Developments in the Hebei province, the Tianjin municipality, and an additional hotel in Manzhouli Inner Mongolia, will bring this number to 12 hotels in the region in the next three years.

The 320-room Shangri-La Hotel, Qinhuangdao will be an urban resort in the Haigang neighborhood near the central business district. Each guestroom features a balcony where guests can enjoy views of Bohai Bay. Culinary outlets will include a Chinese and an all-day dining restaurant, as well as a bar with live entertainment in the evenings. Meeting space will feature a 1,200-square-metre grand ballroom and a multi-purpose pavilion set within the waterfront landscaped gardens. The health club will include a 25 metre lap pool and an additional freeform pool. Guests travelling as a family will enjoy the children’s club with extensive recreational facilities.

Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin is expected to be a landmark within Tianjin’s new downtown Kerry Centre complex, linked to the adjacent Kerry Centre Mall and office buildings. Located along the Haihe river, the 535-room hotel will have the Horizon Club lounge and sky lounge that will offer panoramic views of the city. Dining options will include an all-day dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a lobby lounge and bar. The hotel’s extensive meetings facilities will include a 2,000 square metre grand ballroom.

Shangri-La Hotel, Tangshan will be located in the Phoenix New Town development on the north side of the city, adjacent to the new financial district. The hotel will have 370 guest rooms and suites, some with views of the public park to the northwest of the hotel. The lobby lounge will be located within an atrium with park views, around which the meeting space, including a 1,375-square-metre grand ballroom, will be located. The hotel will offer an all-day dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant with Cantonese cuisine and local favorites, and specialty restaurants.
